Our wedding string quartet 2018 highlights and much more

Status Cymbal is one of the UK’s leading string-quartets and is a popular choice for weddings, parties or corporate events based on its ability to span classical and contemporary music, played by experienced musicians who have worked with some of the world’s most prestigious orchestras and popular music icons.

2018 has been another extremely busy year for the string quartet and its members. We’ve played around 50 weddings in some fantastic venues such as Leeds Castle, Blenheim Palace, Syon House, Hever Castle and The Cutty Sark, amongst many others. Even after so many years, meeting new brides and grooms and being part of their special day is always inspiring.

Outside of the quartet, our members have also been hired for a wide variety of high-profile work throughout 2018, playing with popular acts such as Katherine Jenkins, Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, The Bootleg Beatles and even going back to the 90’s to play in a UK arena tour with DJ Pete Tong and The Heritage Orchestra – watch the full set at the O2 here. One of our violinists even played for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in his 8th year in the orchestra for The Royal Variety Performance. In keeping with this, our other violinist accompanied rising star, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, the cellist who performed at their wedding.

You will also be able to hear our players in some current and upcoming movies after numerous recording sessions held at studios such as the iconic Abbey Road & Air Lyndhurst studios in London. Think of us when you hear soundtracks to movies including Surviving Christmas with the Relatives, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Mary Queen of Scots, Skyscraper, Trial by Fire and Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Aside from Hollywood glamour and packed stadium tours, all our players are still passionate about playing world class classical music. This year, between us, we’ve played with The Philharmonia, the English National Ballet, The National Symphony Orchestra, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestras at venues ranging from the Royal Albert Hall to a high security women’s prison.

In addition to his work writing bespoke arrangements of wedding music, our cellist and resident composer was commissioned to arrange and record music for the Basement Jaxx as well as arranging and performing tracks with former Britain’s Got Talent finalist Jonathan Antoine in Los Angeles. His other recordings this year included BBC dramas such as The Press, Doing Money and US TV show, Nightfall.

With the new year ahead, we’re all looking forward to bringing the experiences we’ve gained with the string quartet and other work in the last twelve months to our wedding entertainment in 2019.
